Working Party August 2018

15 stalwarts turned out for the August Working Party, armed with wheelbarrows, mattocks, secateurs and enthusiasm, and fuelled mid-way with tea and brownies!

With a waiting list of some 30 and another plot letting session coming up, we were tasked with clearing a few of the available plots to make them more easily lettable. Whilst new allotmenteers need to expect to put in some hard graft at the start, an enthusiastic group of 15 can achieve a terrific amount, even in a morning, giving a good basis for new tenants to get cracking. We built up one plot which had had its topsoil removed by the previous tenant and cleared a couple more plots on the east side - great work by all.

With the Produce Show coming up soon, the marquee needed some serious work, so we fought with the bindweed, ripped up all the rotten carpet, laid woodchip under new carpet and repaired the tent panels. Whilst the flooring is far from perfect, it should be slightly less lethal than before.
